Joe Phillis shot two honor scores in the Men’s Thursday Night Industrial League October 22, 2009 at Atwood Lanes & Pizza in Dellroy, Ohio.
When asked if he thought he was in for a good night when he started, Joe replied, “Heck no. I started out almost missing the head pin and had an open in the first frame.”
That’s really all Joe missed the rest of the night. Over the next three games Joe had 30 strikes out of the possible 36 a bowler could throw in a three game series. After the 7-2 open frame in the first, Joe finished with the eleven consecutive strikes to finish with 279 in the first game – the first honor score of the night (11-in-a-row.) A couple of spares to start the second game, and a spare at the end to finish left Joe with a 267. The third game started with a double and a spare in the third frame, and strikes through the 8th frame.
“When I missed in the 9th frame I thought my 800 was out of reach.”
When he got up in the 10th frame his teammate Steve Easerday said, "Take your time, and get the first one."
Joe thought, “that’s when I realized I must still be able to get it!”
A light swish-shot carried in the tenth, and the next 2 were as good as they get as Joe finished the last game with a 258, capping off his 804 series (second honor score.)
When asked if there was anything memorable about the night Joe commented, “It was my first 800 series here at Atwood.”
His 804 marks the eighth for Joe in his twenty-five plus years of bowling.
